History and Mission of Don Bosco College

History and Mission of Don Bosco College

History and Mission of Don Bosco College

The Bombay Salesian Society established the Don Bosco Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology in 2008 at its expansive campus in Kurla West, Mumbai. The institute received permission from the University of Mumbai to offer a degree course in Hospitality Studies under the Faculty of Science from the academic year 2008–09.

In 2010–11, the institution expanded within the Don Bosco Centre for Learning (DBCL) campus, increasing its intake for B.Sc. (Hospitality Studies) from 60 to 120 students. It also secured affiliation from the University of Mumbai to introduce three additional degree programs: Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM), Bachelor of Accounting and Finance(BAF), and Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS). To reflect its multidisciplinary academic offerings, the institute was renamed Don Bosco College in 2011–12.

The Salesians of Don Bosco are dedicated to a single mission: being “signs and bearers of God’s love for the young.” With more than 2,000 institutions across approximately 130 countries, the Salesian network promotes holistic education and personal growth. Inspired by this mission, Don Bosco College encourages students to discover their purpose in life, identify their talents, and pursue meaningful careers that contribute positively to society.

Academic Excellence and Student Development

Don Bosco College is committed to helping students achieve academic success while fostering personal and professional growth. The institution offers four undergraduate programs:

B.Sc. in Hospitality Studies

Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS)

Bachelor of Accounting and Finance(BAF)

Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM)

In addition to these degree programs, the college provides subject-specific add-on courses and value-added programs that focus on transferable skills and life skills. The curriculum follows the syllabi prescribed by the University of Mumbai and emphasizes high-quality, engaging, and dynamic classroom learning.

The Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) enables faculty members to implement innovative assessment methods that help students showcase their abilities. Digital learning is supported through a Learning Management System (LMS) on the Moodle platform. Modern infrastructure, advanced academic resources, and a supportive learning environment empower both teachers and students to perform at their best.

The college also maintains various committees and statutory cells to ensure discipline, student welfare, and compliance. Through its National Service Scheme (NSS) unit, students actively participate in social outreach initiatives. Additionally, the Placement Cell assists students in securing employment opportunities with prominent organizations.

At Don Bosco College, students are encouraged to become confident communicators, practical thinkers, and responsible citizens. Values such as honesty, work ethic, mutual respect, openness to diversity, truth, justice, equality, and peace form the foundation of the Don Bosco educational philosophy.
